Every migration journey is much more than a geographical movement. Behind every journey there is a personal story shaped by difficult decisions, unexpected circumstances, opportunities, challenges and processes of adaptation that profoundly transform people's lives.
This edition of the Living Library, organised within the framework of the Connected Towns for a Shared Future (COTAF) project, invites participants to engage in meaningful conversations with people who have experienced migration first-hand.
Each "living book" will share a unique life story. Some were forced to leave their home countries because of conflict, insecurity or circumstances that threatened their wellbeing. Others migrated for work, education, family or health-related reasons. Although every story is different, all of them reflect moments of change, resilience and the challenge of building a sense of belonging in a new place.
Rather than focusing on migration as an abstract concept, the Living Library creates a space for dialogue between people who might not otherwise meet. Through listening, asking questions and sharing reflections, participants are invited to move beyond stereotypes and discover the human experiences behind migration.
By creating opportunities for respectful encounters, the activity aims to strengthen empathy, mutual understanding and social inclusion, contributing to the broader objectives of COTAF: building more connected, inclusive and democratic communities across Europe.
